Broadax 2 is a British featherweight robot which competed in the 2018 King of Bots UK International Championships. Entered by Team Darklight, it endured a limited run of success in the qualification rounds, initially finishing its opening melee second to Saber-X on a Judges’ decision. From there, Broadax 2’s fortunes worsened, finishing its second battle third to Binky and Microswitch after becoming immobilized by the latter. After being forced to forfeit its final qualifier due to overrunning repairs[1], it was eliminated from the 2018 UK International Championships, having not scored enough points to progress to the Knockout Round or qualify for the 8 Way Melee.
In addition to the main competition, Broadax 2 also competed in a whiteboard battle judged by members of the audience, as well as Tag Team battle alongside Apex. It redeemed itself in both battles, winning each via a Judges’ decision.
Design[]
Broadax 2 is a two-wheel drive, pyramid-shaped robot with a silver, burgundy and black color scheme. Its main weapon was an electric-powered axe, featuring a double-bladed head and a spur gear-based drive mechanism, which could also act as the robot’s self-righting mechanism.[2] Broadax 2’s design also incorporated a large one-piece armor plate, which protected the robot’s sides and doubled as its front wedge. Immediately before the 2018 UK International Championships, Team Darklight added an extra layer of 5mm HDPE to the robot’s top armor, in order to weather attacks from other axe and hammer weapons.[1]
