This article's name is a rough translation from Chinese, and the team have yet to specify the robot's official name. As such, the article's title may not be entirely accurate. |
中华神盾 (romanized as Zhōnghuá shén dùn, translated as Chinese Aegis or Shield of China (Mech+)) was a robot from Jinzhou, Liaoning, China, which competed in the first season of King of Bots. It was a full body spinner which lost in a quick battle against Two BBQ. Chinese Aegis was succeeded by Anchor and Shield, and later Flaming Wheel.
Design[]
Chinese Aegis was a tracked, cylindrically-shaped full-body spinner, painted blue and white in reference to the team's naval background. The robot's outer shell - referred to by captain Wang Yu as a 'spinning rudder' - was lined with spikes and rotated at high speeds, giving Chinese Aegis 360 degrees of offence and defence. Chinese Aegis also featured an electromagnet in the center of its body, allowing it to stick to the arena floor while its weapon spun. While its weapon was powerful, the robot overall suffered from having extremely thin armor around its sides, a last-minute modification made after the initial version of the machine proved to be overweight.
The Team[]
Referred to as the Heroic Ocean Duo in the Mech+ version, Chinese Aegis' team was lead by Wang Yu, a retired naval soldier. Yu and his father, Guozhe, had both served the Navy of the People's Republic of China, in a career lineage spanning over multiple generations. To match their machine, the team wore white and blue-striped shirts with an 'anchor' logo in the center.
Robot History[]
Season 1[]
Chinese Aegis made its King of Bots debut in Episode 2, where it fought the vertical spinner Two BBQ in the first round. It hesitated in the opening seconds as both robots got their spinning weapons up to speed, before sustaining a charge from Two BBQ which lifted it off the arena floor. Sparks flew as Chinese Aegis was shepherded towards the wall by Two BBQ – a second hit from the latter launched it into the spikes, ripping its shell apart and immobilizing it completely. Chinese Aegis was quickly counted out as a result, ending one of the shortest battles in King of Bots history to date.
