Meow is a British featherweight robot which competed in the 2018 King of Bots UK International Championships. Entered by the Infinite Monkeys team from Stratford-upon-Avon, it endured a limited run of success in the main competition, finishing second to DB12 and third to Furious George in its first two qualification rounds. Another third-place finish, this time against Sabre20, resulted in Meow being eliminated from the 2018 UK International Championships, having not scored enough points to progress further.
Meow also fought in a number of side events held alongside the main championship, including two whiteboard battles, a Tag Team battle (partnered with Orpheus and the eighteen-way Gladiator battle. There, it picked up at least one victory in the ‘Farmageddon’ whiteboard, after surviving to a Judges’ decision and benefiting from Furious George’s disqualification for attacking an immobile Hedgebot.

Meow is a two-wheel drive robot with a box-wedge shaped profile and two pyramid-shaped ‘ears’, designed to resemble what the team described as a ‘steampunk stylised cat head’.[1] Its weapon was a rear-hinged lifter powered by a linear actuator; although not fast enough to fully re-right the robot, Meow’s lifter could still do so by levering it on its back panels, where the robot’s wheels would regain contact with the arena floor.

Meow initially entered the 2018 UK International Championships in a plain black paint scheme. The Infinite Monkeys team later applied white stripes to the bottom of its front panels before its second qualifier, and additional decorations to its entire front end before the ‘Farmageddon’ battle. These included a set of cat’s eyes, whiskers, nose, mouth and ears, in keeping with the robot’s feline theme.
