原子核 (translated as Nuclear and Nuclear Bomb) was a robot from Beijing, China, which competed in the first season of King of Bots. Entered by the Real Steel team – led by Wang Chao, CEO of the Beijing Tiejia Steel Fist Company - it lost its only battle against Snake on a Judges’ decision.
Nuclear was an invertible, two-wheel drive robot with a two-tone white and black colour scheme. Its main weapon was a set of hydraulic horizontal crushing claws at the front, which were intended to grab and crush through opponents. The robot also featured a 20mm titanium wedge at the rear, painted black, intended to be used for pushing and ramming. In addition to this weaponry, Nuclear was accompanied by a white drone, which was used to provide Team Real Steel with a top-down view of the arena during battles.
Nuclear competed in Episode 1, where it fought fellow Chinese competitor Snake in the first round. The main robot immediately turned and reversed over a nearby floor flipper, where it lost mobility for several seconds as its accompanying drone hovered overhead. Nuclear remained immobile on the flipper until Snake pushed it off while trying to grab it, where it began moving again. However, it stopped driving again in the centre of the arena, with Snake trying to lift it from the side, but being unable to do so. Eventually, the two robots separated, with Nuclear still being unable to attack effectively before it was rammed, grabbed and thrown onto its back by Snake. Nuclear was pushed, grabbed and lifted again by Snake, this time being thrown back upright, before Snake rammed it into the wall spikes. It responded by bumping into Snake twice, which was unable to turn it over again before time ran out. With both robots still mobile, the battle went to a Judges’ decision, which ruled against Nuclear, eliminating it from the competition.
