"Mine's a unicorn, and unicorns work by magic. If the magic is in, they're fabulous! If the magic is out... they're more difficult!"
— John Frizell, following The Mighty Unicorn's first qualification battle

The Mighty Unicorn (also shortened to Unicorn) is a British featherweight robot which competed in the 2018 King of Bots UK International Championships. Entered by Team Unicorn, it endured limited success in the qualification rounds, finishing second to Apex and Nigel Barrage in its first two battles, despite removing one of the latter's wheels off, before getting thrown out by the arena by Rocket in its third. The Mighty Unicorn did not score enough points to reach the Top 20, and was eliminated from the main 2018 UK International Championships as a result. However, it would later fight a whiteboard battle which took place in between later rounds, judged by audience members, which it lost to Broadax 2.

Team members JME Anderson and John Frizell also competed in Seasons 1 and 1.5 as part of the team entering The Grubs and Eater respectively.

Design[]

The Mighty Unicorn is an invertible, four-wheel drive robot with a low profile and a front-mounted drill weapon. The drill was quoted to rotate at 500rpm, and was mainly used in conjunction with the robot's powerful drive system to ram opponents and potentially damage vulnerable components. The Mighty Unicorn also featured a set of green LED lights forming a pair of 'eyes' positioned immediately behind the drill, and had a set of optional rear wedges which could be used to get underneath other robots. The rear of The Mighty Unicorn also had a large wooden block attached to the center, offering additional protection against high-powered spinning weapons.
